China is a major consumer nation of semiconductors, accounting for one-third of global consumption each year, with imports reaching as high as $300 billion, surpassing even China's crude oil imports. The National Integrated Circuit Industry Investment Fund, operated by the IC industry investment company, has a registered capital of 98.72 billion yuan with a total investment scale of 138.7 billion yuan. Of the investment projects, 67% goes to chip manufacturing, 17% to chip design, 10% to packaging and testing, and 6% to equipment and materials. The second phase of the Fund has a registered capital of 204.15 billion yuan, and in addition to continuing to support manufacturing, is expected to focus on high-end equipment and new materials.
