The Hong Kong Animation-Comic-Games Festival, originally known as the Hong Kong Comics Festival, began in 1999 and has been held every July since then. Initially, it was mainly a platform for comic publishers, but over the years, especially with the concurrent Hong Kong Game Expo, it has attracted many computer and online game companies to participate, leading to a richer variety of exhibitions. As the local comic industry matured, many comic characters have recently transitioned from books to animation, prompting a name change in 2006 to "Hong Kong Animation-Comic Festival and Game Expo."
By 2008, it was officially combined into the "Hong Kong Animation-Comic-Games Festival" (ACGHK), encompassing a wide array of fields related to animation, comics, and games, creating a comprehensive cultural experience. This festival not only serves as a heaven for anime and manga enthusiasts, but it has also become a platform for local and international creators to showcase their work. Every year, it attracts tens of thousands of visitors, highlighting Hong Kong's significance in the anime culture and gaming industry, and fostering the development and exchange of these two sectors. The event features various exhibitions, workshops, signing sessions, and COSPLAY competitions, allowing participants to immerse themselves in the culture and celebrate with like-minded friends.
