The National Agricultural Exhibition Center and the China Agricultural Museum are two distinct entities operating under one institution, directly overseen by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of the People’s Republic of China.
The National Agricultural Exhibition Center, one of the top ten buildings in Beijing, was approved for construction by the State Council in 1958. Its location, scale, layout, and style were personally approved by Premier Zhou Enlai. The center was officially completed and opened to the public in September 1959. The China Agricultural Museum was established as a national-level specialized museum in July 1983, based on the National Agricultural Exhibition Center. It opened its doors to the public in September 1986 and was rated as a National First-Class Museum in 2012.
The National Agricultural Exhibition Center (China Agricultural Museum) is tasked with promoting the Party and state's "agriculture, rural areas, and farmers" policies, showcasing modern agricultural development achievements, facilitating agricultural product distribution and promotion, spreading agricultural knowledge, and protecting, preserving, and promoting Chinese agricultural civilization.
The National Agricultural Exhibition Center (China Agricultural Museum) covers an area of 43 hectares. The exhibition area indoors is 21,000 square meters, and the outdoor exhibition space spans about 40,000 square meters. The center is equipped with well-established exhibition support facilities, including meeting rooms and a hotel, to accommodate a variety of exhibitions and public activities. The China Agricultural Museum has an indoor display area of 6,600 square meters, which includes six permanent exhibitions, such as "Chinese Agricultural Civilization Exhibition." Its outdoor exhibition gardens include an Ancient Traditional Farming Garden and a Modern Scientific Farming Garden, covering a total area of approximately 10,000 square meters.
The institution has been honored with various titles, including National Patriotic Education Base, National Youth Science and Technology Education Base, Beijing Science Popularization Education Base, and International Science and Peace Education Base.
