Weihai, also known as Weihaiwei, is a prefecture-level city in Shandong Province, located at the easternmost end of the Shandong Peninsula, around latitude 37 degrees, across the sea from the Liaodong Peninsula and facing the Korean Peninsula. Weihai is designated by the State Council as a regional central city in the Shandong Peninsula, an important marine industry base, and a coastal tourist city. It is the birthplace of China's first modern navy, the Beiyang Fleet, and the site of the Jiawu War. In 1984, Weihai became one of the first coastal cities to open up in China; in 1990, it was rated as China's first National Sanitary City and has been recognized for many years as one of the happiest cities in China.
In the 1960s, the ambitious "South Tea North Introduction" project sowed the seeds of tea in Weihai and Jiaodong; after half a century of ups and downs, Weihai's tea industry has continued to grow and thrive, with Lvshan green tea, Jiaodong red tea, and Rongcheng green tea becoming significant new representatives of Weihai. Currently, Weihai is also the highest-latitude, northernmost, and lowest-temperature tea-producing area in China and even the world. The beneficial trace elements contained in Weihai tea, after a long winter dormancy, are far superior to those from other tea-producing regions and are loved by consumers.
The 2025 6th China (Weihai) International Tea Culture Expo (abbreviated as Weihai Tea Expo) will be grandly held from October 17 to 20, 2025, at the Weihai International Exhibition Center (58 Haibin Middle Road). The Weihai Tea Expo is organized throughout by Qingdao Ocean Star Business Exhibition Co., Ltd., featuring eight major exhibition areas including famous teas from across the country, Weihai green tea, Rizhao green tea, Zisha art, ceramic tea utensils, famous calligraphy and paintings, jewelry, and redwood furniture. The organizing committee will continuously innovate and introduce more brand tea companies to participate, enriching the cultural activities during the event; by integrating commerce and trade, it will efficiently promote the rapid development of Weihai's tea industry.
Once a formidable maritime power, today’s Weihai is a happy and livable city; charming and harmonious, bustling with life, Weihai welcomes you!
