The 33rd National Book Trade Fair will be grandly held in Chongqing from July 25 to 28, 2025. This year's fair is hosted by the National Press and Publication Administration and organized by the Chongqing Municipal People's Government under the theme "Fragrance of Books in China, the Beauty of Reading."
The aim of this event is to promote the Party's innovative theory, disseminate excellent traditional Chinese culture, and promote high-quality publishing content. The fair will create an impactful cultural event with a strong theme, abundant books, and a variety of activities through online and offline integration, presenting a rich cultural experience to readers.
The main venue will be in the Chongqing International Expo Center, with sub-venues located in the Nanan and Dazu Districts. Exhibitions will include the "Light of Truth - Publication Achievements of the Party's Innovative Theories," "Old Books, New Knowledge" thematic exhibition, and the "Land and Sea Agreement" thematic exhibition among many other reading activities like the Reader's Conference, Children's Reading Carnival, and Land-Sea Lecture Hall.
This year's fair will leverage new media platforms, establishing a book e-commerce sub-venue to fully promote key activities and various new books, thus fostering a rich reading atmosphere throughout society.
Six Core Highlights:
1. Thematic Exhibitions: The collision of culture and ideas. The 'Light of Truth' exhibition will showcase the publication achievements of the Party; 'Old Books, New Knowledge' will bring old books back to life through restoration; 'Land and Sea Agreement' will focus on cultural exchange along the Belt and Road Initiative.
2. Nationwide Reading Activities: Close interaction between famous authors and readers. The Reader's Conference will invite well-known authors to engage directly with readers; the Children's Reading Carnival will have an interactive area for children featuring story performances and author signing events; the Land-Sea Lecture Hall will have three sessions focusing on literature, science popularization, and intangible cultural heritage.
3. Online and Offline Integration: Breaking the limits of time and space through e-commerce sub-venues conducting online promotions and live book sales. Short videos and live streams will showcase highlights of the fair and recommend excellent books.
4. Benefits for the Public: A city rich in books. Discounts and promotions will be available at both the main and sub-venues, along with creative gifts like astronaut puzzle erasers and kite ornaments for participants.
5. Cultural Characteristics of Chongqing: Local publishers such as Chongqing Publishing House will collectively display books themed around Bayu culture and the Three Gorges culture. Physical bookstores like Xinhua Bookstore will create distinctive exhibition areas that integrate coffee and cultural products.
6. Combination of Intangible Cultural Heritage and Reading: Experience traditional culture through hands-on workshops on traditional kite making conducted by national inheritors, as well as interactive exhibitions showcasing the entire process from book planning to printing.
