The Hangzhou International Expo Center (HIEC) is located on the south bank of the Qiantang River in Qianjiang Century City. With a total construction area of 850,000 square meters, its architectural design seamlessly integrates traditional Jiangnan aesthetics with modern simplicity. In September 2016, HIEC made its global debut as the main venue for the G20 Hangzhou Summit. In September 2023, the center once again gained international recognition as the main media center for the Hangzhou Asian (Para) Games, the National Expo Squash Arena, and the official catering service provider for the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Center's main media center.
As of June 2024, HIEC has hosted over 8,000 conferences and more than 350 exhibitions, with a total exhibition space exceeding 40 million square meters. The G20 Hangzhou Summit Experience Hall has welcomed visitors from 48 countries and regions, along with 2.1 million domestic visitors since its opening.
Expanding on its success, Phase II of HIEC is now under construction. Designed as an urban exhibition industry complex, it will integrate conventions, industrial offices, high-end hotels, and large-scale exhibitions. Upon completion, the combined total area of HIEC Phase I & II will reach 1.3 million square meters, ranking it among China’s largest exhibition complexes.
Beyond its operational excellence, HIEC has joined several prestigious international organizations, including ICCA, UIA, IAEE, UFI, and AIPC. It is also the first venue in China to receive five major international certifications, covering quality management, food safety, hazard analysis and critical control points (HACCP), environmental management, and occupational health and safety management. In May 2021, HIEC became Zhejiang Province’s first standardized exhibition industry demonstration base and was recognized as a national-level service industry standardization pilot unit by China’s Standardization Administration.
