The 2025 Retired Power Battery Resource Recycling Technology Forum Special Exhibition aims to provide a fertile ground for the whole industry chain technology exchange focusing on waste reduction, resource utilization, and harmless treatment. The exhibition will be held from April 21 to 23, 2025, at the Shanghai New International Expo Center and is one of the largest environmental exhibitions in Asia, second only to the Munich IFAT Exhibition.
With the production and sales of new energy vehicles in China exceeding 10 million units in 2023, a "retirement wave" of power batteries is expected. Generally, power batteries have a lifespan of 5 to 8 years, with effective service life around 4 to 6 years. By 2030, a substantial number of automotive power batteries will enter the recycling phase, with lithium-ion battery recycling volume projected to reach 6.028 million tons, and the market size expected to exceed 100 billion yuan.
The gradual retirement of batteries is also increasing the demand for resource utilization, with future energy storage capacities expected to rise significantly. By 2030, annual installations of energy storage systems may exceed 400 GWh. Retired batteries can continue to be used in backup power and small-scale energy storage scenarios. For those that cannot be reused, regeneration is needed to extract valuable metals like lithium, cobalt, and nickel, achieving recycling. Establishing a safe and environmentally friendly battery recycling treatment industry is vital for China's competitive edge in critical minerals and green transformation.
This forum aims to gather industry elites from around the world to discuss environmental treatment solutions for used lithium batteries and improve resource utilization while reducing environmental pollution and promoting sustainable development. Key participants include Shanghai University of Electric Power, various new energy vehicle power battery recycling industry alliances, and relevant environmental technology enterprises. Important topics will cover trends in retired power battery industry development, state industrial policies, intelligent disassembly technology, resource processing technology, and more, addressing various aspects and technologies of battery recycling.
The establishment of this forum and exhibition is designed to provide participants with a platform for communication and learning, fostering innovation and development in the battery recycling industry while ensuring safe and environmentally friendly handling of retired power batteries.
