The global health consumption wave is driving the Asian starch industry into a deep transformation period. As the largest starch producer in the world, China has surpassed an annual production of 30 million tons and continues to lead the industry. Driven by market demand, the industry is achieving product diversification through process upgrades, successfully developing functional raw materials such as resistant starch and slowly digestible starch. These new raw materials are expanding their application scenarios from traditional food processing into high-end areas such as biodegradable materials and pharmaceutical carriers.
Notably, sustainable development has become the main line of industry upgrading. Leading companies are establishing a "corn-starch-sugar-biobased materials" circular model, achieving an 18% reduction in carbon emissions compared to five years ago. Additionally, policies like the “14th Five-Year Plan for Biotechnology Development” have included new starch-based materials as part of strategic emerging industries.
On the consumer end, the "Healthy China Action" is giving rise to new demand for low-GI foods, significantly boosting the penetration rate of deep-processed starch products, which has surpassed 65%. The industry is likely to see a growth pattern that combines traditional upgrades with emerging demands. The current industry is also using technological innovation to counter challenges posed by raw material fluctuations, continuously enhancing global competitiveness.
The 20th Shanghai International Starch and Starch Derivatives Exhibition will take place from June 15 to June 17, 2026, at the Shanghai National Exhibition and Convention Center. This exhibition will provide a platform for showcasing achievements in the Chinese starch industry, promoting international cooperation, and acting as an incubator for innovative ideas. We look forward to gathering with global peers to jointly promote the starch industry towards a more brilliant future.
The exhibition will showcase various types of starch products, including potato, corn, cassava, sweet potato, wheat, rice, pea, mung bean, lotus root, acorn, and taro starch. There will also be modified starch covering applications in food, papermaking, textiles, pharmaceuticals, construction, and petroleum sectors. Additionally, various starch sugars will be exhibited, including sugar alcohols, functional oligosaccharides, glucose, malt syrup, fructose, malt syrup, maltodextrin, and novel sweeteners.
Staple potato products such as potato buns, noodles, bread, and rice noodles will also be displayed, showcasing the potential for innovative food items. Moreover, starch processing and supporting equipment, including cleaning, drying, crushing, mixing, dehydration, concentration, crystallization, filtering, and separation equipment, will be presented, along with environmental protection equipment for water and wastewater treatment, sedimentation, separation devices, evaporation and crystallization equipment, membrane and filtration devices, and more.
