Huai'an, an ancient city known as "Qingjiang" or "Huaiyin", is located in the northern part of Jiangsu Province and the eastern part of the Jianghuai Plain, at the intersection of the ancient Huai River and the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal. Historically, Huai'an was a significant hub for grain and salt transportation, known alongside Suzhou, Hangzhou, and Yangzhou as one of the "Four Great Cities" along the Grand Canal, earning the title of "Capital of the Grand Canal of China." In 2025, the permanent resident population of Huai'an reached 4.5 million, with a regional GDP of 563.011 billion yuan.
Huai'an boasts a rich historical heritage and is the hometown of great leader Zhou Enlai. It has also been the birthplace of notable figures like military strategist Han Xin, literary figure Mei Cheng, national hero Guan Tianpei, and Wu Cheng'en, the author of "Journey to the West." Moreover, Huai'an is one of the primary origins of Huaiyang cuisine, honored as a "City of Gastronomy" by UNESCO.
Today, Huai'an is economically prosperous, with thousands of tea houses and shops existing throughout the city, fostering a culture of tea drinking. The first China (Huai'an) International Tea Culture Expo, organized by Haizhi Star Company, will be grandly held at the Huai'an International Exhibition Center from December 4 to 7, 2026, located at 169 Beijing South Road.
The Expo will feature eight major exhibition areas, showcasing famous teas from across the country, Zisha art, ceramic tea ware, tea space aesthetics, renowned paintings and calligraphy, cultural collectibles, tea crafts, and unique tea houses. Exhibits will include various tea types such as black tea, green tea, white tea, yellow tea, oolong tea, and dark tea (Pu'er tea). Zisha teapots, cups, and related tea sets will also be showcased, alongside hardwood furniture and craftsmanship, calligraphy and traditional Chinese painting from esteemed artists, as well as jewelry and jade collectibles. This event aims to encapsulate the rich tea culture that has developed over more than 2,000 years, inviting friends from all walks of life, tea enthusiasts, merchants, and citizens to join in and share in this cultural feast of tea and artistry.
